Tropical Storm Beatriz emerged near the southern Pacific coast of Mexico on Thursday and is projected to intensify into a hurricane by late Friday, posing a threat to the southwestern region of the country.

As of late Thursday, Beatriz was positioned approximately 100 miles (160 kilometers) south-southwest of Acapulco. It was heading towards the west-northwest at a speed of 12 mph (19 km/h) while sustaining maximum winds of 40 mph (65 km/h), according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

A hurricane warning was in effect from Zihuatanejo to Playa Perula. The storm is anticipated to decelerate its forward motion over the weekend, resulting in heavy rainfall across multiple southern Mexican states.
